On Love

Often when we reduce love to its purest form

Strip it of its meaning

Drain it down to the last drop; We find this desire to try

To grasp at the moments we have left

Because loving is acceptance

And often when we weigh acceptance and defeat on the same scale

They may look alike

Choosing love sometimes means throwing one’s hands up and saying “you got me”

Acceptance in love can feel like choosing the conscious choice to walk away from home

Knowing that there will be time to return

To turn and face the other way in bed

Knowing that these arms will hold you

Through the night.
