The Exploitation of Monkeys on Social Media
Exploiting monkeys on social media is a serious issue that demands attention. Content creators on social media manipulate and force monkeys to record videos to boost their popularity, likes, and views, treating these monkeys as mere objects for entertainment. It is time to recognize the value of monkeys and avoid engaging with these exploiting channels.
In these videos, monkeys are to cope and perform in distressing circumstances. Most of these videos show adorable infant monkeys dressed in human clothing and mimicking human activities such as shopping, playing, and eating human food. Other videos involve monkeys experiencing direct physical abuse, torture, and deliberate distress.
Think these videos are entertaining? Well, think again. Shortly after being born, these infant monkeys are forcibly ripped away from their natural habitats and families. It is a tragic reality that these monkeys are denied the opportunity to experience the nurturing love of their species. After being taken from the wild, they are marketed as pets and later forced to adapt to new and often stressful situations. These monkeys are required to perform in unfamiliar environments and activities for their owners' profit, to make money. This exploitation heavily affects the monkeys, resulting in emotional and psychological damage. Although they may appear to be smiling or grinning, these behaviours are often misunderstood as positive. In reality, they imply anxiety, alertness, and aggression. And when these monkeys reach adulthood, they are likely to be disowned as they can become a struggle to manage.
As a social media user, you have the power to help end the suffering of exploited monkeys. Do not support these content creators by engaging with their videos - this means no liking, commenting, or sharing their videos. If you come across any of these videos on your feed, please report them. Though you may find these videos amusing, it is crucial to acknowledge the immense suffering these wild animals endure for entertainment.
